Gourd Head (Black man of the waters, negro d'agua) Unfinished Painting
(Sketch for painting)
Gourd Head comes from Brazilian folklore. He is a very short little man standing only about three feet tall with very dark skin, webbed hands and feet. His most distiguishing feature is a large head in the shape of a gourd. Gourd Head tends to hang out near bodies of water and perhaps can even breath underwater. When it comes to the behavior of Gourd Head some say he is a very timid creature that will run away when spotted, others say he is a trickster and likes to scare children, and some even say he is a mean cannibal that kills and eats people.
